We can substantially improve public safety in our communities by upgrading safety systems to appropriately respond to the needs of our communities. We must reinvest in community-based solutions such as professional mental health teams, community safety boards, and enforceable standards for police officers and agencies.

Currently, King County has one of the highest per capita homelessness rates in the U.S. In my medical practice I saw that secure housing is fundamental to stabilizing people’s lives. Private development has delivered skyrocketing rents and failed to provide ample affordable housing. I will advocate for increasing the stock of public housing and relief for homeowners and renters.

Doctors witness first-hand the huge deficits and inequities in healthcare. We need a state health system which is prepared to respond to threats to public health and to ensure that each individual is covered by a universal single payer healthcare system that delivers better outcomes at lower costs.
Hospital merges are moving us in the wrong direction by allowing even fewer executives to make healthcare decisions, instead of trained medical professionals. Health insurance must cover mental health services, including mental health services in public schools and dental care.
Access to the full range of Reproductive Health Care services is vital.

In 2022, atmospheric carbon dioxide levels measured 421 parts per million, the highest ever recorded, and far beyond our goal of 350 ppm. We need to reverse our dependence on fossil fuels immediately. Washington State can incentivize an environmentally sustainable state economy to protect biodiversity, agriculture, the economy, and human life. There is so much we can do, right now, to mitigate human impacts on our local environment.

We all want a strong economy which provides ample opportunity for both employers and employees. I support fully funding public schools and free community college and state universities for a step toward higher education and jobs training. Public education is the vehicle for creating a vibrant economy with a well-trained work force. We guard against those who seek to diminish our educational resources by siphoning public funds to for-profit charter schools and diminish the potential for public schools to provide an excellent education to every student.

Washington State can better optimize our tax dollars for the public good. The state pays over $1 billion a year to service our state debt to Wall St banks. A public bank in Washington State would save millions because it could offer interest at negligible rates for public projects. This would keep our tax dollars working for us to invest in our schools, roads, infrastructure and economic development.

Washington State taxes are identified as the most unfair in the United States. I will legislate that the wealthiest individuals and businesses must pay their fair share. This will reduce the tax burden on middle-and-lower income residents and increase the tax base overall for state programs. Since I refuse donations from Corporate Pacs, I will not be influenced to protect the wealthiest corporations from paying their fair share.

As a young person, I was inspired by FDR Democrats and Eleanor Roosevelt's success in transforming government to serve the many, not just the few. In my medical practice, I treated people in underserved communities such as women, Native Americans, and people with disabilities. So, I’ve been in the fight for racial, gender and economic justice my whole life.
